It is difficult to give an average estimate on the time requirements for studies. All studies have different time duration and commitments. However it is fair to say that most studies run into office hours. Many people choose to use some of their annual leave or if they have a shift pattern, will swap their shifts. It might be helpful to give an example of a typical study to illustrate the time commitment:
Example: 24 hour (overnight) stay. Return the following morning for a 20 minute visit (some studies may require another 20 minute visit the next day). This pattern (session) would be repeated two or three times, maybe within a week or fortnight interval between sessions.
Benefits to you:

· Payment for your time and inconvenience - When you later participate in medical studies you will be paid an honorarium (a payment related to your time and commitment) to compensate for the inconvenience
· Help advance medical research - by developing new medicine
· Facilities -
· Meet new people and make new friends - enjoy good food and good company
